Westville Learning Academy/Westville Public School receives $1403 grant from Carol Watson Rural Oklahoma Community Foundation
Westville, Ok - Westville Learning Academy/Westville Public School is pleased to announce it has received a $1403 Classroom Enhancement grant from the Carolyn Watson Rural Oklahoma Community Foundation administered by the Oklahoma City Community Foundation. The grant will be used to assist in funding the Unearthing the Earth’s Geological Secrets, which will allow Westville Learning Academy/Westville Public School to provide educational opportunities that will expand its students’ horizons.
“This funding allows us to provide hands-on, engaging opportunities for students in alternative education that would otherwise not be available. We are pleased to have received this grant and appreciate the support of the Carolyn Watson Rural Oklahoma Community Foundation,” says Terry Heustis, Westville Superintendent.
Students in the Westville Learning Academy - Alternative Education setting will participate in a Geology Course with hands-on, engaging format taught by Mrs. Faddis. Students will learn rock types, rock cycles, ecosystems, cave formation, sedimentary basins, and properties of water interacting with Earth’s minerals. Upon completion of the Unit, students will take two field trips to view mineral deposits and to participate in a Conservation Stream Ecosystem class to determine the water quality of a stream.
